Variable cycle engine is promising concept for supersonic business jet. In order to answer which engine architecture will offer the better performance not compromising structural complexity, weight andnoise the approach to engine definition shall be based on multidisciplinary paradigm. The special attention shall be paid on engine architecture, performance, structural design andtrade-off studies. This paper will cover some of critical issues on conventional variable cycle engine for future environmentally friendly supersonic business jet
