Aqueous poly (alkylene glycol) -PAG - polymer quench-ants are being used increasingly worldwide as less expensive, cleaner, more flexible, and fire-resistant alternatives to quench oil. The objective of this paper is to review the results of four recent conversions from oil to aqueous PAG quench-ants. The processes to be discussed include the production of: saw blades, carburised forged gears, pipe connectors for oil drilling and crankshafts for trucks. The focus of this discussion will be on theadvantageous physical properties obtained with equivalent, or less, distortion than achieved previously with quench oil.
