Increased sensitivity to light and sound during cluster headache bout

It has been stated that in cluster headache 'photophobia seems to be one of the most frequently occurring accompaniments of attacks',1 but nevertheless, there is no complete agreement regarding photophobia as an associated symptom in cluster headache. Different authors have reported photophobia among cluster headache patients with frequencies varying from 5% to 72%.Phonophobia has been reported only occasionally, in 12-39% of cluster headache cases. In order to evaluate these phenomena in cluster headache, the discomfort and pain thresholds induced by light and sound were measured quantitatively in patients both outside and during a bout. The patients were also asked to complete a questionnaire about their sensitivity to light and sound.6
