This paper has briefly described how a number of user-centred design techniques have been used to assist the development of the Magic Lounge virtual collaborative environment. The user ideas obtained through these techniques have emphasised the importance of providing well-integrated software tools for collecting, accessing, and exchanging a range of diverse information required for creating virtual links between real user communities.
