As a part of the radioactivity reduction technology verification test before dismantling of commercial nuclear plants, the chemical decontamination method for the BWR primary coolant system was experimentally tested using the system simulating an actual reactor. In systems simulating a reactor water cleanup system (CUW) and a primary loop recirculation system (PLR), High temperature water simulating the BWR environment was circulated to form an oxide layer over the inside surfaces of these systems. The decontamination method was tested using a newly developed reagent in which a reductant was added to dilute hydrochloric acid, and the removed oxide layer could be observed to evaluate the decontamination effect.
