The LCR technique is ideally suited for stress measurement since it is a bulk longitudinal wave propagating just underneath the surface of the item being inspected. Additionally, it is most sensitive to stress and least sensitive to material texzture. A brief description of a typical LCR pro be and test procedure is included. Probe repeatability at one location on a steel plate varioed rom 1 to 8 ns, and velocities ranged from 5914 m/s, depending on the plate and the probe frequency. Descriptions are given of successful applications to stress evaluations in a compressor rotor, welded steel plates and rolled aluminum plates.
