Recently, the so-gel technique was developed for making the organic-inorganic nanocomposites. In order to increase the interaction between the organic polymer matrix and the inorganic metal oxides, trialkyloxyl silanyl groups are often introduced into the pendant group or one or two side of the terminal groups of the polymer chain. Because of its convenience to control the molecular weight of polymers, atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) has atracted great interest since it was invented in 1995 by Matyjaszewski and his coworkers. The synthesis of oligomers with trialkyloxyl silanyl group at one end by ATRP and their sol-gel process is reported in this paper.
