A template-based intelligent CAD system

The product customization has to satisfy different customers' needs with reasonable cost and time. This put a big challenge on today's CAD technology. It requires that CAD system must be whole quickly catch up designer's intention. Although this is not feasible in general, it is quite possible with restricted application area. This paper introduces a template-based intellignt CAD system for such design process. The template is a representation of knowledge, represented as rules and objects. A template describes a product model. Using the customers input data, the system can instance different objects and assembles them according the selected template. Select different template can satisfy different customers. This CAD system has successfully designed the air conditioner cabinet for different requirements.
