The field laboratory - Maximising our understanding of geotechnical construction: Using field instrumentation

Instrumentation is now predominantly automatically recorded and computer processed. Data can be recorded and displayed in real time. The paper discusses the possible interaction between construction sequences and monitoring systems, by adopting the 'observational method' produce cost savings, safe working and also a method of refining our understanding of the mechanisms involved in geotechnical construction and of the insitu soil properties.
