With the increase of strengthening degree, parts of vehicle engines are required to bear much heavier mechanical and thermal loads. Great importance is attached to the LHR (Low Heat Rejection) technique to reduce the thermal loads and heat transfer in the field of internal combustion engines. Bearing heavy mechanical and thermal loads, the piston is one of the most complicated part of engines and it is the key point of the LHR technique application. This paper presents the researching work of LHR piston and its structure. The three-dimensional FEM (Finite Elements method) analysis of the piston was offered, its temperatures field distribution and the amount of heat transfer were calculated and a large amount of significant dada were obtained. An experimental investigation of temperatures on the LHR Piston was made by wiry surface thermocouples and thin film thermocouples to prove the effectiveness of FEA. The LHR piston greatly reduce the heat transfer. This paper may provide some insights for the LHR piston design.
