We have been investigating a new photobioreactor, called a cone-shaped helical tubular photobioreactor (HTP), which incorporates Chlorella sp. for CO_2 fixation / conversion from a thermal power plant into useful biomass. As it is very important to develop an appropriate HTP design to achieve high photosynthetic productitity, differnet types of HTPs with inclinations to the horizon of 30, 45 and 60 degrees were used to determine the optimum shape of the HTP. The maximum daily growth in three types of HTPs was 28.1g-dry weight biomass centre dot m~-2-installation area-day~-1 at the CO_2-enriched air flow rate of 1.8L cemtre dot min~-1 in the 60-degree type. This photosynthetic productivity corresponded to a photosynthetic efficiency of 6.79
