Corrision in CO_2 separation process using a sterically-hindered amine, 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol (AMP), was investigated over ranges of three operating parameters, i.e. 30 to 80 deg C liquid temperature, 0.0 to 1.0 mol/mol CO_2 loading, and 1.0 to 4.0 kmol/m~3 AMP concentration. Experimental results show significatn effects of the three parameters on corrosion rate. An increase in each parameter generally aggravates system corrosiveness. The corrosiveness in AMP system was also compared with that in conventional absorption solvents at elevated temperature and CO_2 saturation condition. It was found that AMP system obtains less corrosion rate than MEA system but still induces higher corrosion rate than DEA and MDEA systems.
