Methane is the second most important of the anthropogenic greenhouse gases (after carbon dioxide). A large proportion of methane emissions arise from anthropogenic sources, which is the opposite of the situation with carbon dioxideemissions. Action to reduce methane emissions could make a significant difference to the future rate of climate change.
