The Treatment of Organic Wastewater by Production Bt Bio-Insecticides

The wastewater from monosodium glutamate production is one of the greatest pollution sources of the fermentation industry in China. But they contain protein-rich material, carbon source and other nutrients for Bt growth. The influences of the pretreatment of the wastewater, the selection of Bt strains, the supplement of nutrients, the optimization of culturing condition and the types of fermentors over endotoxin formation and production cost were studied. An economic and practical technology utilizing glutamate waste liquors as an organic substrate for producing Bt bio-insecticides was developed in this paper. This technology could be applied to treating other wastewater rich in organic matter.
