Urging the development of waterway transport of standard containers for the domestic trade

In recent years. modern logistics have been developing with a rapid momentum as it becomes a new demand of the market and a growing point in economy. More and more people come into the research on it. In this article, the author, in accordancewith the latest tendency of both the international and domestic water transport market, puts forward a wholly new idea--- to develop the Water Transport of Standard Containers for the Domestic Trade (hereinafter referred to as WTSCDT). Putting it intopractice, Shanghai Harbor Longwu Port Operation Co. opened the first line of WTSCDT and has achieved a quick development. Along with their great efforts, WTSCDT has become one of the key links in modern logistics. As the general manager of Longwu, theauthor, based on his years' practice, elaborates the advantages of WTSCDT, such as complying with the change of international transport methods, restructuring the industrial layout of ports and lines in China, and promoting handling efficiency andquality. Therefore, he comes to the conclusion that it is necessary for our government and relevant corporations t( develop WTSCDT. Finally. the author makes an insight look into the existing problems and difficulties in modern logistics, especially inWTSCDT. Accordingly, he submits the solution and strategy for the further development.
