By using special fibre cocktails, a combination of steel and polypropylene fibres, the explosive failure behaviour of High Performance Concrete (HPC) may be avoided. With the variation of the fibre cocktail composition different material ductilities could be adjusted. The characteristics of a design concept, based on the Compressive Damage Zone (CDZ) model from Markeset are presented. The calibration of the CDZ model for fibre cocktail concretes allows the prediction of the material ductility. According to the design requirements, the structural ductility may be achieved by a combination of transversal reinforcement and increased material ductility. After the complete implementation of the model parameters, the material ductility may be specified in the design of the fibre cocktail composition.
