The Personal Server: Using a Commercially Available Cell-Phone As the Center of Your Personal Computing Experience

The Personal Server (PS) [1] concept enables users to access personal content and applications, sourced from their personal mobile device, through interface-rich platforms such as Desktop PCs or Laptop computers. Advances in storage, computation, and communication technologies have made the cell-phone platform a powerful personal computing platform; however, its basic input/output capability is limited by the screen size, which must remain small to afford a truly mobile usage. The PS model overcomes this basic limitation and enables new capabilities for mobile platforms that are not limited by small screens, or encumbered by large ones.
