The Articulated Total Body (ATB) Model program allows for sophisticated computer simulations of biodynamic response that may be used to perform estimates of crew survivability during underwater explosion events. With this in mind, collected data and video taken of a Hybrid III Anthropomorphic Test Device (ATD) during underwater explosion testing were used to develop and validate an ATB model of the shipboard environment and shock induced excitation. Subsequently, this model was used to estimate the biodynamic response and injury potentials for human males and females seated in various positions in a vessel subjected to an underwater explosion event.
