Investigations of the performance of turbocharged compressed natural gas operated diesel

摘要

This paper describes the first phase of a project to run a medium duty Prechamber Diesel engine on a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as an alternative fuel for motor vehicles. The engine uses a lean burn, Prechamber fitted with glow plug and featuring the Nebula combustion system. The New Zealand CNG kit with microprocessor controlled is used for the present study. Earlier work [1-7] investigated sofar fails to give the real percentage of CNG substituion upto the knock Limited Power output for various load and speeds variation. Very little work is available on turbocharged prechamber dual fuel Diesel engine with Natural Gas. In the present study comprehensive experimental results are obtained and plotted in graphical form which are valuable for controlling the performance of dual fuel diesel engine under knock Limited Power output. The performance characteristics are plotted for various parameters like Brake thermal efficiency, Brake specific energy consumption, Exhaust gas temperature, and Knock Limited Power output for different load and CNG substitution. The comparison shows good improvement.
