Start up of a new vertical slab caster at Dillinger Huttenwerke

Dillinger Huttenwerke is specialised in extra-high-tensile strength steels for structural purposes and shipbuilding, as well as for mechanical and plant engineering. Central emphases of the production range can be found in the manufacture of sour-gas-resistant and boiler plates and constructional steels involving maximum specifications for plate centre toughness. These requirements can be met only by slabs fulfilling highest quality standards in terms of internal cracking, segregation, centre porosity and cleanness. To ensure to meet even future demands Dillinger Huttenwerke has started up a new slab caster (Figure 1) build by SMS Schloemann-Siemag AG in September 1998.
