This paper presents a one-dimensional numerical heat transfer analysis used to develop predictive capabilities for the thermal responses of Glass-Reinforced Plastic (GRP) pipes exposed to cellulosic or hydrocarbon fires. The behaviour patterns which are usually associated with organic material exposed to fire, such as thermal decomposition and expansion, are included in the numerical model. The accuracy of the model is evaluated by comparing the analytical and experimental temperature history inside GRP pipes subject to standard fire tests. Empty pipes and pipes filled with both stagnant and flowing water are considered.
