Fire Endurance of Horizontal GRP-Pipe Systems Including Bulkhead Penetration

For the National Foundation for the Coordination of Maritime Research in the Netherlands, the Technical Center for Fire Prevention TNO has carried out experimental investigations into the behavior of gas filled glassfiber reinforced plastic (GRP) pipes, protected with Phenol foam (thickness 40 mm) and penetrating a A60-bulkhead, exposed to Solas fire conditions. The basic aim of the investigations was to demonstrate that for the horizontal GRP-pipe system including two types of penetrations, a fire resistance of 60 minutes can be achieved. From the test results it is concluded that with both types of penetration a fire resistance of 60 min. is feasible.
