Interaction between the lattice dislocations and the interphase boundaries [IBs] during tensile deformation of austeintic-ferritic steel has been investigated by transmission electron microscopy [TEM]. In situ TEM deformation experiment delivered details of the mechanism of the slip transfer through IBs. It has been found that the character of slip transmission through IBs depends on the grain orientation relationship. The crystallography of the slip systems in austenite and ferrite was examined by the slip traces method and confirmed by a computer simulation. Results are discussed in terms of the relation between the crystallography of IBs and the mechanical properties of the material.
