摘要

Although the occurrence of deposits of titanium minerals on Kenya's present day beaches and adjacent dune systems has been well documented, the potential for older formations to host economically viable deposits had not been recognised until recently. The Magarini sands formation in Kenya has been found to contain deposits of ilmenite, rutile, and zircon in quantities and grades which have the potential to be commercially exploited. Since 1996, Tiomin Resources inc. has explored these deposits and has identified one deposit, the Kwale ilmenite, 80,000 tpa rutile, and 30,000 tpa zircon. It is possible that production could come on stream by 2000.
