The problem of predicting hindered difusion of colloids has relvance to both theoretical and practical aspects or related membrane filtration processes such as ultrafiltration and microfiltration (1). The usual approach in hydrodynamic models has been to represent the porous medium of membranes as straight cylindrical pores founded in track-etched membranes. Since many real membrane systems closely resemble arrays of fibers with fluid-filled interstices, one would prefer a more realistic geometric model of the fibrous microstructure. Further, it is obvious that there is a great need for a better understanding of the effects of colloidal interactions on the partition and diffusion of colloids in membrane pores (2).
