A 42-inch-diagonal, high-resolution de, PDP was developed for an HDTV receiver in 1997. About one hundred 42-inch HDTV PDP receivers were later produced for the enjoyment of HDTV programs from the Winter Olympiad in Nagano in Feb. 1998. Still, however, improvement "are required to the luminance and luminous efficiency of the PDP and the cost of the receiver must also be reduced for the spread of HDTV PDP receivers to many homes. Higher efficiency, in particular, is essential regardless of what type of PDP( de or ac ) is used for the small cell-pitch panel of the HDTV display, In this study, two-dimensional spatio-temporal densities of particles were calculated in a pulsed discharge cell filled with a mixture of He and Xe gas as a first step towards this improvement of the efficiency. This paper describes the modeling for the calculation, basic equations, and the results.
