Status of the swiss radioactive waste disposal programme

Swiss Law requires permanent safe disposal of radioactive wastes in geological repositories.In order to meet htis requirement,Nagra pursues two repository programmes,one for HLW,spent fuel and long-lived ILW in Northern Switzerland and one for LLW and short-lived ILW at the Wellenberg site in the Swiss Alps.For the limited quantities of HLW/ spent fuel,the option of disposal within the framework of a bilateral or multinational project is kept open.This paper summarises status and developments in the Swiss radioactive waste disposal programme.
