The Pioneering Significance of Research for Improvement of Steel-Rolling Technology

The fundamental tasks for research in metalforming are discussed on the basis of the three bottom pillarsof the 'metal forming temple', namely 'continuum mechanics',physics of metals', and 'tribology'. Examples from the field ofdirect rolling, of thermomechanical treatment, ofhydrodynamical lubrication in cold rolling, and surfaceroughness transfer in temper rolling are presented in detail.
