Using Molten Salts for the Production of Functional Coatings

Electrochemical deposition of platinum, iridium or tantalum out of molten salts is described for the coating of steel and refractory metals like titanium, niobum, molybdenum and tungsten. Platinum and iridium coatings are used as activation layer on insoluble anodes in chemical processes. Platinum coatings could be used as oxidation protection, as adhesive base and as soldering aid. Tantalum coatings are used as corrosion protection.
