The low grade gold pyrite concentrates containing4-10 g/t, Au; 1-2 percent Cu; 1-6 percent Zn; 2-3 percent Pb arenot totally valuable and the unutilized amounts of materials aredeposited on relatively large land surface areas. These depositsare a permanent source for pollution of air, soil, surface watersand underground water table. The investigation performed so far, focused on the recovery ofprecious metals using classical methods (classical cyanidation),non - conventional methods (carbon - in - pulp cyanidation, thiourea and halide solubilisation) and combined methods(chemical treatments, pressure oxidation, roasting followed bycyanuration of the oxidised product). The test work carried out by using the above mentionedtechnologies provided recovery efficiencies of 65 -90 percentfor precious metals.
