Noise is one of the main factors effecting thehuman health and behavior. Recent works and studies showedthat specially irregular and complex noise generations decreasethe working efficiency and effect negatively the human behaviorand health. The working of mechanical and electrical equipment,various vibrations, the friction and rolling of different materialsare the main cause of the noise. Any kind of mining andexcavation activity is usually accepted as the main source of thenoise generation. Due to this fact the noise measurements andthe control of the noise levels according to the regulations ofworkers health and safety are very important in taking thenecessary precautions and to have an acceptable workingefficiency. The results and the discussion of the noisemeasurement made in the tunnel drivages within Istanbul MetroProject, is the main concern of this paper. The research is carriedout within NATO-TU Excavation Project titled "Development ofRapid Excavation Technologies for the Turkish Mining and Tunnelling Industries".
