The influence of multiscale effects on ozone formation at the urban scale

Urban air quality depends on both regional and local scale transport and transformation phenomena. In spite of their significance, local scale atmospheric processes affecting ozone formation in urban areas were not sufficiently investigated so far. The improvement of our ability for establishing source-receptor relationships at the urban scale will constitue a substantial scientific progress. Important fields of current urban air pollution research are multiscale air pollution modelling with emphasis on the ozone formation in the urban plume and the improvement of methods for describing peak air pollution levels in street canyons.
