This paper deals with the development of numerical methods for unsteady, compressible, single or two-phase flows, characterized by low Mach number effects. After a review of current and past methods, we shall focus on two approaches and discuss their advantages and disadvantages. The first one relies on the solution of the compressible equations using preconditioned fluxes of the conservative variables in a finite volume setting. The second approach is based on the numerical solution of a system of equations which approximates the compressible flow equations at low Mach numbers by filtering out the acoustic waves. We give numerical comparisons of the two approaches on typical test cases.
