Age-related macular degeneration (ARMD) is the most prevalent cause of legal blindness in the geriatric population in the USA. The clinical course, histological characteristics and methods of treatment have been described extensively. We review the key histopathological features of ARMD and describe the salient features present after treatment with laser photocoagulation and submacular surgery.
