EXTRACTION OF LANTHANIDES(III) BY CYANEX 302 USING HIGH PERFORMANCE CENTRIFUGAL PARTITION CHROMATOGRAPHY

High performance centrifugal partition chromatography (HPCPC), one of the newest multistage separation means based on liquid-liquid extraction, is employed to study the extraction of lanthanides (III) (Ln(III) ) by bis (2,4,4-trimethypentyl) monothiophosphinic acid (Cyanex302, HL) in hydrochloric acid medium. The separation factors of adjacent rare earth are calculated and extraction mechanism of rare earth ion by Cyanex302 is investigated by using HPCPC. Results are compared with separation properties of batch extraction. Gradient pH elution is used to separate light and heavy lanthanides mixture efficiently in a single run by using HPCPC. Comparing 1-hexyl-4-ethyloctyl isopropylphosphonic acid (PT-2) and 2-ethylhexyl phosphonic acid mono-2-ethylhexyl ester (P507) with HPCPC, the evaluation on extractant Cyanex302 is conducted on the basis of extraction behaviors of lanthanides (III) by Cyanex302 using HPCPC.
