The moisture and temperature conditions in a pavement system vary seasonally, with a corresponding change in the resilient modulus of the pavement layers. To obtain an understanding of the seasonal variation of the environmental conditions in a pavement system, a pavement section in eastern Tennessee, USA was instrumented. Time Domain Reflectometry(TDR) porbes wer installed in the unbound aggregate base layer and clay subgrade to monitor subsurface water content changes. Teh measurements suggest thatduring the first year of pavemetn service, the lower portion of the unbound aggregate base layer above the soil subgrade experienced the msot significant water content changes.
