Theencrustation behavior of melts in heat exchangers is the crucial point if melt crystallization is to be carried out in equipment designed for solution crystallization processes. In contrast to the encrustation of solutions the encrustation of melts is a rather faster process. It is therefore important to avoid first nuclei, and to know the place and time of the onset of encrustation. In this paper, the results of investigations on the encrustation behavior of an organic melt in a heat exchanger are described with respect to the Reynolds number and the temperature level.
