An electric measurement method has been developed in order to monitor the reactions of lubricants and the formation of boundary layers offering the possibility of indication of wear within tribo-systems. The results of experimental studies carried out on an oscillating friction and wear test machine will be presented. The measuring device consists of a HF-oscillator system (electronic circuit) which enables to monitor the electrical impedance between metallic elements of a lubricated tribo-system. It is shown that the formation of wear-reducing boundary layers is indicated by a characteristic and almost constant value of oil gap impedance.
