CSP Plant Start-up at Steel Dynamics Inc.

On November 10, 1995 Steel Dynamics Inc. melted and cast a heat of steel at its greenfield Compact Strip Production plant, located in Butler, Indiana. This followed a thirteen month construction and cold commissioning period. With actual production beginning in January 1996 the plant has ramped up to the current production level of 93 000 tons per month. Quality has been excellent and has allowed SDI to penetrate unexposed automotive markets. Currently the company is constructing finishing facilities and will soon add increased melting and casting capacity, and DRI facilities.
