At the Granite City Division of National Steel, our steel production capability has been limited by environmental restrictions in our operating permit with the I.E.P.A. The BOF shop consists of (2) 238 ton vessels that operate at an average heat size range of 227 - 230 tons per heat. Each vessel has separate emission hood systems that are connected to an electrostatic precipitator through a common downcomer pipe. tapping, hot metal charging and blowing emissions are collected through this system by means of a primary and secondary damper system on each vessel. The oxygen blowing capacity of the system is maximized at the current 22,000 SCFM being used today.
