ASTM Metallography Standards for Quality Control

Committee E-4 on Metallography has developed a number of standard metallographictest methods and guides useful in quality control work. Other ASTM groups have also prepared test methods of value to metallographic quality control, such as bulk indentation hardness test methods, but these are not discussed. These documents contain a wealth of valuable information for the metallographer. All laboratories should be familiar with ASTM test methods, and other relevant test methods developed by other standards organizations. Because these documents are regularly updated, laboratory personnel must keep abreast of these changes. Those who write materials specifications requiring testing to the standard methods also need to be aware of the changes in these documents.
