The work described in this report was conducted as a Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) sponsored project related to sound level testing for an urban driving cycle. Mainly, it was of interest to evaluate the correlation between the currentInternational Standards Organization (ISO) procedures and typical urban drive cycles. Data collected from nine vehicles tested at their respective exterior noise facilities, and all vehicles being tested at Collins & Aikman's (formally PerstrorpComponents) indoor noise facility are summarized in this report. At both the exterior and indoor facility, each vehicle was tested using the ISO 362 and ISO 7188 test procedures. At the indoor facility the vehicles also underwent testing adhering to acomposite urban drive cycle from U. S. and European emission drive cycles.The objective of this project was to provide engineering data for the development of alternatives to the proposed urban driving cycle to replace the existing full throttle test. The data is intended to provide the rationale to develop a drive cycle thatis representative of urban driving.
