Towards generic design criteria for vehicle door shut exterior noise quality

Door shut noise quality is a significant feature of vehicle refinement. As an indicator of vehicle build quality, a 'good' door shut noise response provides the user with an initial impression of the robustness and build quality of the vehicle.These are two strong arguments to support a detailed study of the door shut noise quality in order to develop component design criteria for its improvement.Towards this aim listening studies were carried out, and an analysis procedure developed objectively characterising the door shut noise quality. Such a procedure would then allow quick and efficient assessment of the significant door shut mechanismsthrough modifications, thereby guiding the implementation of desirable modifications.
