Case Study Zero Discharge General Electric, Selmer TN

General Electrics ED&C plant in Selmer TN produces the Spectra Series electrical bussing system. This product requires plating silver on aluminum buss bar, tin on copper buss bars and silver and tin on assembly components. With vessels 13'long and loads up to 1500 lbs on a hoist the existing lines used 250 gpm of rinse water. The decision was made to build a new, environmentally sound plating system. Aqualogic/FPI Systems was contracted to design and build the new facility. The new plating lines carry up to 3000 lbs and output up 10 loads per hour (the plant operates 3 shifts). The treatment process uses on line ion-exchange, evaporators, flow balanced rinsing, treatment for cleaners, concentrated acids and cyanides and segregation of these byproducts of their plating for reuse as raw materials for other manufacturers. The entire new facility does not discharge any water to the sewer.
