APPLICATIONS OF THERMAL PLASMA FOR RECOVERY OF METALS AND DESTRUCTION OF WASTE

As a heat source, plasma has become important to thermal processes in modern waste management and recycling. Main applications concern recovery of metals from metal containing wastes and residuals (PLASMARECR-treatment), thermal destruction and vitrification of civil and military nuclear wastes (PLASMARCR-treatment), thermal destruction and vitrification of civil and military chemical toxic waste (PLASMOXR-treatment). The present paper summarizes some recent developments and plants currently either under construction or in advanced project stage.
