A suitable quantity of steel balls is introduced into the reactor to cause breakdown of the waste. Their high thermal conductivity facilitates heat penetration into the comminuted waste. Their impact on the waste, reinforces molecular agitation, accelerating breakdown reactions. Coke is produced pyrolytically. Steel balls assists coke removal. Any masses adhering to the outlet opening, are removed by them. An Independent claim is included for the corresponding pyrolysis plant. Following reaction, screens separate the steel balls. Preferred Features: Coke with an 80% degree of carbonization is extracted from the reactor and subjected to a second breakdown treatment. Before this, screening and/or grinding takes place. In the second treatment, volatiles are removed, producing a high-quality carbon black or activated carbon. The plant has a magnetic separator, comminution mill and various storage- and product vessels with interconnections. A separation vessel provides treatment for oil vapors liberated by the reactor. A condenser and gas storage vessel are included. Further handling equipment is provided for the gas, oil and coke produced.
