Bipolar membrane water splitting to produce organic acids

Bipolar membrane electrodialysis or "water splitting" can convert aqueous salt solutions into acids and bases.The traditional applications are for waste salt streams in various industries icluding chemical,food pharmaceutical,pulp & paper,and corn milling.In the last few years,there has bene increasing interest in using bipolar ED stacks in chemical processes to directly acidify or basify process treams without the addition of chemicals.
