To clarify the reaction mechanism for coliquefaction of coal with waste plastics, catalytic coliquefaction of dibenzyl (DB) as a coal model compound with PP, PS, high-density PE and their mixture (1/1/1) was carried out under 7MPa initial pressure of hydrogen at 430 or 450°C for 60min using tetralin as the solvent. PE was most difficult to be converted to n-hexane & THF-soluble and oil, among the plastics. Oil yield for the coliquefaction was strongly influenced by the degree of PE decomposition. Decomposition of PE was accelerated in different ways by coexisting reactants of DB, PP and PS. Largest synergistic efffects in respect of conversion and oil yield were observed for the coliquefaction of PE with PS, probably due to secondary radical attack ofPE by PS.
