Outgassing studies of outer materials used on ELECTRO hydrometeorological spacecraft under the action of vacuum, high temperature and ionising radiation have been conducted. Outgassing kinetics of drivers and structure units of the scanning radiometer of the ELECTRO spacecraft has been investigation and main results are being reported. We also present computational results relating to the contamination of the IR-sensor as well as sensitive elements of the scanning radiometer, radiation cooler (RC) included, due to inherent gas atmosphere of the spacecraft itself and the method of its cleaning in flight conditions. To reduce outgassing a combined thermal and vacuum treatment of all major components of a spacecraft (structure, apparatus, payload) has been carried out. Flight testing of the ELECTRO spacecraft (launched in October 31, 1994) proves effectiveness of measures taken to control its contamination.
