The paper reviews the results of tractive performance trials conducted with a range of single pneumatic tyres and a modular track system. The trials were performed on the same soft soil test site using a mobile tester. The results are seen to be well described by the use of non-dimensional mobility numbers. Compared to the Mean Maximum Pressure (MMP) method for describing vehicle trafficability, the results indicate slightly better performance for wheeled vehicles but markedly poorer performance for tracked vehicles.
